The 8th Mozambique Mining, Oil & Gas and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2022) organised and co-organised by AME Trade and ENH took place in Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre, Maputo, Mozambique, from 2-3 June 2022 under the theme, “Sustainable Development Across the Entire Mineral and Energy Value Chain, Towards a Low Carbon Future”. The conference gathered national, regional, and international energy, oil and gas industry experts to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities for promoting sustainable development along the minerals and energy value chains considering the imperatives of the drive for low carbon requirements in the extractives industry.
MMEC has become the largest annual gathering of mining, oil & gas, and energy industry experts with the attendance of over 300 delegates from 25 countries at the MMEC 2022, creating a truly global event. It is a high-level networking conference that brings together key industry leaders and decision-makers in Mozambique, the entire Southern Africa sub-region and beyond.
MMEC 2022 was officially opened by H.E. Ernesto Max Elias Tonela, Minister of Economy and Finance of Mozambique.
MMEC is the only event in the Mining, Energy, and Oil & Gas sectors officially endorsed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, co-organised by ENH – Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos E.P. and organised by AME Trade Mozambique and AME Trade UK.

MMEC 2022 provided a conducive platform for oil and gas decision-makers, industry players, academics, researchers, and other service providers in Mozambique, Southern Africa region, Africa and beyond the continent to discuss all the pertinent issues and challenges of the industry caused by the energy transition especially as these affect the African continent and its people. Useful insights and recommendations that will be useful to the work of delegates came out of the Congress.
Since 2008, MMEC has been covering the key developments, policies and projects in Mozambique’s extractive industries. It has become an important networking platform for all stakeholders by showcasing the huge opportunities in the Mining, Energy and Oil & Gas sectors and their ramification on the national economy.

The programme gave me a completely different insight into how certain regulatory issues ought to be approached or may be approached even in my own jurisdiction. I will definitely use the information gained to see how best I can contribute in introducing some regulatory change in my organisation!
